At a seminar commemorating 300 years of the guru ship to Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji in 2008, a girl said “ I ponder as to the elaborate celebrations being held world wide throughout the year. To me this is essential, but is this the true homage to our Guru ? On searching for the answer in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji itself the reply was no, Anything done for making own name and for own satisfaction cannot be true homage. In modern time our best gift to our Guru will be to create educated and responsible citizens of the society through excellence in education and ethical standard of living.
The best way to do this is to bring the light of Education into the lives of the deprived section of our panth. These words struck S. Devender Singh Bindra, who has led his whole life practicing the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib & spreading its message of "SARBAT THE BHALA" and pledged to start educating the children of economically weaker section of society.
Education in considered as a lucrative business but when it comes to serving the humanity it can be an uphill task.
Creating awareness and empathy for this noble mission among the society was a great challenge that Bindraji took upon himself.. But with his faith in Shri Guru Nanak Devji , he worked hard and with the support of few likeminded people, initially 25 Golaks were kept in houses to contribute for the cause which has grown to 180 today. With Management committee, Gurdwara Gobind Nagar, Race Course providing space for office, Gursikh Education Society started functioning on 7th Feb 2010.
