At a seminar commemorating 300 years of the guruship to Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji in 2008, a girl said “ I ponder as to the elaborate celebrations being held world wide throughout the year. To me this is essential, but is this the true homage to our Guru ? On searching for the answer in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji itself the reply was no….., Anything done for making own name and for own satisfaction cannot be true homage .”In modern time our best gift to our Guru will be to create educated and responsible citizens of the society through excellence in education and ethical standard of living. The best way to do this is to bring the light of Education into the lives of the deprived section of our panth.” These words struck S. Devender Singh Bindra, who has led his whole life practicing the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib & spreading its message of "SARBAT THE BHALA" and pledged to start educating the children of economically weaker section of society.
Education in considered as a lucrative business but when it comes to serving the humanity it can be an uphill task. Creating awareness and empathy for this noble mission among the society was a great challenge that Bindraji took upon himself.. But with his faith in Shri Guru Nanak Devji , he worked hard and with the support of few like minded people , initially 25 Golaks were kept in houses to contribute for the cause which has grown to 180 today. With Management committee, Gurdwara Gobind Nagar , Race Course providing space for office, Gursikh Education Society started functioning on 7th Feb ‘2010. In the first year financial assistance was provided to 62 students, which has grown to 320 during the year 2015-16. Students (from PG to Higher Education) ,bringing positive change into the lives of the less fortunate with fees amounting to more than Rupees 4 million during 2016-17 .
Seeing the response of the Panth and the results of 4 years of our working, Management Committee of Gurdwara Gobind Nagar, Race Course and Dhan Pothohar Cooperative Refugee Society, Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Dehradun also started contributing to this noble cause. The over whelming support from the sangat old and young, has helped us to reach where we are today.
Journey of GES has started yielding fruits as 10 of our students after passing their professional courses have joined their respective jobs. Most important these students have become asset to the panth and society and have started contributing their daswand for this cause.
Spreading the Message Our honorable president has been travelling to different cities to spread the message of "vidya da Langar" . Inspired by the work of GES many like minded people have pledged to work for the cause under the able guidance of GES. With the motivation of GES President it has spread to Cities like Kanpur, Haridwar, Ambala, Delhi and many other societies and people have started working towards it.
An important part of our mission is "MISSION 2040", i.e to make Sikh Panth the most educated Panth of the society by year 2040.
